You’ll Not Carry Anything Out of This World

[7] “For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.” – 1 Timothy 6:7 (NKJV)

As a young man who’s not so well vested with how secular work systems work, I’ve had so many people encouraging me to settle for normalcy in life by stabilising my work and not attempting anything great in life. And to my surprise, anytime such people try engaging me in such regular talks, I always end up frustrated at them. I’ve had God teach me to live beyond getting physical possessions to making a trans-generational impact, so because of that, I find it hard to compromise the standards of God for my life. But I am sure 1 Timothy 6:17 is my defence.

It says that we didn’t bring anything into this world, and we’ll carry nothing out of it. That means it’s completely vain to work with the sole view of acquiring earthly possessions and call yourself great because of the things you have. Jesus said in Luke 12:15 (NKJV) that “… life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.

Dear believer, I’m not saying that getting material possessions is unnecessary. Indeed, it is. But the primary purpose of getting them is not to base your identity in them. You’re not what you own. The life Jesus gave you is beyond materialism. Is it a house you want? Go and get it by grace, not by human efforts. But as you build, see it as a blessing to help you live comfortably, knowing that you have a place to sleep as you fulfil your purpose, not to make you think you’ve made it in life.

At the end of the day, what you did that contributed to the spread of Jesus’ influence is that which will get used to judge your works. So when you build your house, use it to raise a godly family. When you buy clothes, thank Him for clothing you as you steward His temple well, which is your body.

Live with eternity in perspective. Think of what to do that will make Jesus known more in this evil world, not to get things that’ll fade away within split seconds. Invest in spiritual things, for those are the only things that have eternal value.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, tune my mind to live beyond earning physical possessions. Help me labour and invest more into spiritual things that’ll impact Your kingdom to the lost. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
