“Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.” — Psalms 127:1 NIV
Every house is built by some man, but the builder of all things is God (Hebrews 3:4). By saying house, the Bible isn’t just referring to physical structures. It goes deep down to organisations, businesses and even our own lives.
When God made the world, He placed man in Eden to dress and keep it (Genesis 2:15). In other words, even though what God created was good, He put Adam in leadership to make it better. That’s how God does it. Your life isn’t as perfect as He intended you to be yet. Your ministry, business or organisation isn’t totally built yet. There are systems and structures you must study and implement to make things better that you don’t even know.
God is the builder, but man is the steward. He wants everything in this world to manifest Christ, yet He has given this same world to men (Psalm 115:16). That means that it’s His responsibility to keep supplying ideas for new innovations to His children through the Holy Spirit. Nevertheless, it’s a necessity for man to honour His call and obey Him wholeheartedly.
Unless the Lord builds the house, what you’re building is in vain. Why? Because it’ll not be in sync with His purpose for your life that was foreordained before you came to the world.
It’s only God that can make your life better. It’s only He who is best at giving visionary ideas, not the internet. Listen, God cannot be mocked. If He came down to stop the tower of Babel project, how much more that evil plan your enemies have formed to execute against you? They’ll be in vain because they aren’t of the Lord.
Could it be that what you’re trying to build isn’t part of your mandate? Think about it. I don’t want you to appear before Jesus one day for Him to tell you, “I never knew you.” Please, think about what you’re doing. If it’s purpose-driven, pursue it. However, if it’s not, abandon it or turn it over to the one who God has called for such an endeavour. I pray that you’ll not live a wasted life.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
In Psalm 127:1a, it’s written that “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labour in vain.” Standing on this scripture today, oh God, I invite you to everything I’m building in my life, be it my ministry, family or business. I may have started it without involving You. But Lord, if it’s aligned with Your purpose for my life, get involved and direct it. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
