“A comforting tongue is a tree of life, but a twisted tongue is a crushing of the spirit.” - Proverbs 15:4 BBE
Comfort is like air. You’ll not know how important it is until you lose someone or something precious to you. Many people are suffering from mental struggles because of numerous (and sometimes fast-recurring) life struggles. A question like “God, why me?” bothers so many people.
No matter how good you inspire, there’re more people to encourage. According to our opening text, a comforting tongue is a tree of life. In other words, people will be glad to receive life (comfort and encouragement) through the gracious words that come out of your mouth.
Fruit-bearing trees don’t grow for themselves; they bear fruit for others to enjoy and sow their seeds in their places of choice. You can’t reach everybody, but your words can reach many people when you encourage at least one person well (because they’ll tell others about their experience with you). Jesus didn’t need to convince the Samaritan woman in John 4 to tell others about Him. She did it.
God didn’t create your mouth for you to use for evil purposes. Choose your words wisely and encourage many people you come across daily.
You’re a blessing.
