“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:11 NIV
Encouragement is essential to many lives. While there are many receivers, few people intentionally encourage others from the depth of their hearts. Why? Because many people are overwhelmed by issues of life. That was what was happening to the believers in the city of Thessalonica.
Paul and Silas went there to preach the gospel (Acts 17:1-9). But they were persecuted and eventually had to flee for their lives. After a while, Paul became concerned about the believers and decided to send Timothy, a Greek, to check up on them. When Timothy came to give Paul good news that the believers have remained faithful to the faith, he was joyful. Now, what’s my point here?
Life problems are inevitable to escape. But as Christians, our words should build each other up instead of tearing them down. People have issues you know nothing of, yet they smile and keep moving on in faith. Before you join the masses to criticize another fellow Christian about something poorly done, think of the worldview of the person and the harm it can cause weaker brethren in the faith. Build each other up by speaking edifying and encouraging words. You might not be in that person’s team, but your encouraging words can make an impact.
You’re a blessing.
