The Deception in Alcoholism

[31] “ Do not gaze at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly! [32] In the end it bites like a snake and poisons like a viper.” – Proverbs 23:31-32 (NIV)

I don’t drink. But my father used to do it and even sold alcohol. It saddens me to say that it didn’t end well with him. Meanwhile, when he was doing it, he never listened to advice from people who loved him and told him to stop drinking. He kept drinking till he fell sick of stroke and never recovered. There is deception in alcoholism. It makes drunkards think they are sleeping on the high seas. Some drink to forget their problems, only to wake up in their right minds to see the problems they want to run from awaiting them to solve.

You see, as long as Jesus hasn’t yet filled all things as He wants (see Ephesians 4:10), evil and problems will continue to exist. You’ll meet problems as you live, and so will I. But as a child of God, recognise that your God is greater than any problem you’re facing or will ever encounter.

To those who struggle with drinking, whenever the devil tempts you to drink, tell him that God is bigger than that bottle of beer. Don’t gaze at the drink for you to tune your thoughts towards it and desire it. No! Take every bottle away from your home. Purge your life so you can stay on course with God.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for divine enablement to live above the dictates of this sinful flesh. I pray in the name of Jesus, keep me on course as I live to fulfil my divine mandate. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
