[17] “For it is better, if it is God’s will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.” – 1 Peter 3:17 (NIV)
Imagine a parent penalising his child for misbehaving at home. How will that feel to the child? Such an unpleasant experience. Right? Yes! But over time, consistent corrective instructions given by the parents build discipline in the child over time till adulthood. But upon growth, there’s a new kind of suffering the children of God go through for living by the ways of God. That is, suffering for doing good.
For instance, a believer gets employed and starts working around people who are unbelievers and corrupt at the same time. Everybody is taking a bribe in the office except the Christian. How will others see him? So odd, right? And because of that, they will start persecuting him for his integrity. The believer will continue to work but in a very sour environment. That is just one of the kinds of suffering some Christians are enduring each day.
You may be in a situation such as what I shared or a similar one as such. Don’t worry. The Word says it is better to suffer for doing good if it’s God’s will rather than doing evil. So, beyond the wailings you’re suffering, commit to following God’s ways. It is not easy to live as such, but worth the price. May God strengthen you to do His work.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, help me to live in Your consciousness always. I choose to cast all my care upon You. Defend me, for I am feeble without You. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
