[9] “Nicodemus answered and said to Him, “How can these things be?” [10] Jesus answered and said to him, “Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things? [11] Most assuredly, I say to you, We speak what We know and testify what We have seen, and you do not receive Our witness. [12] If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?” — John 3:9-12 NKJV
Nicodemus was one of the secret admiring disciples of Jesus. Because he was a Pharisee and worked with other Pharisees who hated Jesus, he was always afraid to join the crowd who followed and listened to Jesus during the day. So when he visited Jesus, he came at night, fearing that someone would catch him. And Jesus was very nice. He explained what it takes to be born again with water and the Spirit to this man. But Nicodemus was oblivious to this revelation, and that surprised Jesus.
He said, “Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things?” (John 3:10). It was then I understood that spiritual maturity in Christ is not a matter of age but revelatory knowledge. That means rising to a deeper level of intimacy in knowing Jesus does not occur by how long you stay in Church, even if you’re in such a good church.
Jesus was thirty when He started ministry. But the things He taught and did in three years still have an impact to date. His doctrine baffled minds, although He was revealing the truth to people. And many didn’t understand Him because they were too spiritually blind to grasp what He said. That won’t be your story in the name of Jesus.
Today, I want you to be intentional about pursuing a deeper intimacy with Jesus. That way, you’ll mature spiritually much faster than before in your walk with God. May the Lord be with you.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, build in me a heart that yearns to know you more everyday. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
