[27] “Whatever I tell you in the dark, speak in the light; and what you hear in the ear, preach on the housetops.” – Matthew 10:27 (NKJV)
The place to consistently get sermons which are never dull and full of impact is in your secrecy with the Lord. Every preacher of the gospel will attest to this. Christian books are awesome. Preaching tapes from other ministers who teach sound doctrine are totally powerful. But none of them can replace what God teaches you Himself when you’re being intimate with Him in your closet. I’ve had the privilege of helping several people who were struggling to live like Jesus to become stronger Christians. And I can tell you that most of them tend to love the Lord but never pursue a deeper intimacy with Him. That’s an error I don’t want you, dear reader, to also commit.
When you’re a babe in Christ, you depend on the shepherds in God’s house to get fed with the Word. As you mature, God transitions you to make you more responsible for your personal spiritual growth. But unfortunately at that level, many people have drawbacks and refuse to grow. See! Spiritual growth is never automatic. You cannot put your labour to knowing the Lord on autopilot; it won’t work.
The disciples spent enough time with Jesus. So He taught them many things in secret, not before the multitudes. But when He was about to send them, He told them that they should say in public what He taught them in private. Just think about that for a moment. He didn’t tell them to consult others to get content for their sermons, but Him. Wow!
Preach what God teaches you, not what you think. Your preaching will be devoid of any mix of heresy when you refuse to mix it with your own philosophies and ideologies. Jesus is enough. Preach Him!
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your sound doctrine You keep nourishing my life with. Empower me to preach You and You alone in this perverse information-saturated world. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
