[1] “You, however, must teach what is appropriate to sound doctrine.” – Titus 2:1 (NIV)
What is doctrine? It simply means teaching. That is it. And so, because of its simple definition, it means there are several doctrines (teachings) in this world. As a matter of fact, everybody on this Earth lives by a kind of doctrine. That may be sourced from culture, personal experiences, the Word of God or even other people’s advice on your life. However, one key fact about doctrine is that it is contagious. That means you will directly live by the doctrine stored in your mind. That is why developing a closer relationship with God is vital to living like Him daily. Why? Because you’ll keep receiving teachings from Him that will help you live like Him.
Think of when believers in Christ were called “Christians” first in Antioch (see Acts 11:26). Before they were named as such, they received consistent sound doctrine as Apostle Paul and Silas preached unto them every day for one year. That is why going to church, even if it is every day, is never too much for your life as a child of God. Why? Living more and more like Jesus depends on your consistent fellowship with God.
If you are a congregant, please hear this. Study your Bible, and pray consistently and fast even when the church doesn’t proclaim it. If you are a preacher, fellowship with God and teach what is appropriate to sound doctrine to the people God has entrusted you to shepherd. For it is time the children of God witness Christ well in this crooked generation.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, help me to live by the principles of Your Word every day as I labour to draw near you. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
