Pray for Your Leaders

“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” — 1 Timothy 2:1 - 2 NIV

One bad thing I’ve seen under this sun is the ability of people to benefit from the labours of others without saying even a short prayer for them. Many people speak harshly against leaders. Meanwhile, some of such people who do this cannot handle the leadership positions of those they’re criticizing.

It’s important to note that all authority is from God (Romans 13:1). Therefore, submission to authority means submission to God. God places people in authority, even though they may not always do everything right. That’s why it’s your duty as a Christian to pray for your leaders, whether civil or in the body of Christ. Paul said this because he knows prayer changes things.

Proverbs 21:1 (NKJV) says,

The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, Like the rivers of water; He turns it wherever He wishes.

In other words, God can turn the evil thoughts coming out of the heart of any leader. However, if we don’t pray, we’ll not influence God to act on our behalf.

Think about the country you’re living in. Suppose your president declares a civil war; how can you go to church and worship God? How can you enjoy peace in your country? You see, leaders need help. And if you aren’t a part of his team or aren’t contributing to the workforce, at least pray that God will grace them with Christ-centered mindsets and innovations to improve upon the state of our societies and the people they lead in the decisions they make.

You’re a blessing.
