[29] “And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life.” — Matthew 19:29 NKJV
It hasn’t been ten years since I started serving Jesus. But a few years down the line, I have understood the practicality of what Jesus said to the disciples in Matthew 19:29. Before Jesus said that, Peter asked Him what would they (the twelve) have in return for following Him. They simply didn’t understand how one man could appear in their lives and completely overturn their normal way of living, converting the likes of Peter from a fisherman to a preacher who rarely visits his wife, and that of Matthew, a corrupt tax collector to a firebrand preacher. Such is God’s power. It’s able to transform anybody from wayward or nominal way of living to a kingdom-minded lifestyle. But there’s a price to pay.
For example, the world teaches us that if we want a product, we must exchange our money for it, right? How about God? If you want to draw near to Him, you can’t have a normal life. You’ve got to put some things aside to make time and be with Him alone in His presence. That’s the reality. You must pay the price to follow Jesus, or else you’ll live like a commoner even as a Christian.
Enough of going to work from Monday to Friday, weddings, funerals and events on Saturday and showing up in church on Sundays. There’s more to life than this routine way of living. Wake up and pray. Contact the power of Jesus to give your life a purpose and reason to be meaningful in this dire world.
Prayer:
Father, turn my life from normality to a life of purpose. May I never exit this world without completing my course. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
