Overcome Resistance in Your Pursuit of Higher Impact

[14] “I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 3:14 (NKJV)

Philippians 3:14 is one of the most popular scriptures people use to encourage, inspire and motivate others when they want to give up. It may be a familiar scripture to you, but I want you to see it in a different light today. In reading the scripture as I stepped up to write today’s devotional, I noticed the use of the word “press”. When you talk about pressing something, it means there’s resistance in its layers. For example, if you don’t press your iron on your crumpled shirt when ironing the cloth, you may succeed in the ironing, but the crumples on it won’t disappear completely.

So, when scripture says press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus, God is saying that you should overcome resistance in your pursuit of higher impact in His kingdom. Whatever God has called you to do, you will not get it easy. There are hurdles that you need to overcome, challenges to confront, and a lot of behind-the-scenes responsibilities that you must take charge of. If you see any ministry, business or institution blossoming out there, I can tell you that people sacrificed a lot of time to build it.

Enough of the excuses. Stop complaining about things not working out, and face the challenge. If it were easy, you wouldn’t need the anointing. But you have the anointing, so use it effectively.
