“Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.” - Romans 8:12-13 NKJV
A man may have physical life because he’s breathing but may not be able to walk. His inability to walk doesn’t deprive him of living but denies him the usage of his life to do so many things. In the same way in Christ, it’s one thing to have eternal life; and yet another to manifest eternal life.
When you get born again, you become a new creature in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17) with the same old mentality and attitude. The constant listening, hearing, and studying of God’s Word renews your mind to conform to the thinking patterns of the eternal life in Christ.
So the Bible says that we (believers) are not debtors to the flesh, to live according to it (Romans 8:12). Your flesh is your natural body ruled by sinful desires. That nature is rendered powerless in your life forever, starting from the day you got saved. But when you don’t understand this, anytime this flesh suggests an evil desire in you, you’ll not know how to put it to death.
Friend, there’s nothing good the sinful flesh has to offer you. Child of God, the Holy Spirit is in you. His presence in your life is too precious to forsake; fellowship with Him. Be intimate with Him in the Word and prayer. You’ll receive so much divine enablement to live beyond the dictates of sin. Manifest eternal life by seeing it differently. May God strengthen you.
You’re a blessing.
