“So Saul went to Naioth at Ramah. But the Spirit of God came even on him, and he walked along prophesying until he came to Naioth. He stripped off his garments, and he too prophesied in Samuel’s presence. He lay naked all that day and all that night. This is why people say, “Is Saul also among the prophets?” — 1 Samuel 19:23 - 24 NIV
God can do so much in one church service. Yet, in many denominations, I see people boxing God by sets of orders of worship rather than allowing the free flow of the Holy Spirit in every encounter.
I understand it’s written in 1 Corinthians 14:40 that “Let all things be done decently and in order.” But sometimes, God’s purpose for a particular church service meeting may be different from what’s planned by the organization. In our ministry (The Bible Daily Network), we make plans frequently for ministry schedules, yet we give room in each one for God to do His will and have His way at all times.
When Saul wanted to kill David, he sent men to Naioth to capture him. But David was with Samuel and some prophets in a service. So when the first batch of men came, the Holy Spirit fell on them, and they also began prophesying. Saul didn’t give up. He sent the second and third batches of soldiers, and the same thing happened twice. Finally, he decided to go there himself. Then, the same Spirit of God fell on him also. But for him, he prophesied naked all day and all night.
Saul’s intention for going to Naioth was to kill David, but he encountered God and prophesied. In the same way, your can’t be going before God in church services, expecting God to meet your “wants” (not “needs”) at all times. He knows you more than yourself. So He knows what you need more than the expectations that have filled your mind.
Just like how Saul got overtaken by the Spirit of God to prophesy for approximately twenty-four hours, I say, “Don’t limit what God can do in your life in just one spiritual gathering of the saints in light.”
Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). Yet, His ways can’t be predicted by human intelligence based on His past activities in our lives. He’s unchangeable but ever progressive in how He does things in the body of Christ.
Christian leaders, acknowledge the free flow of the Holy Spirit and allow fluidity in how He does things to people in spiritual gatherings.
You’re a blessing.
