[12] “Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.” – Romans 8:12 (NKJV)
How does it feel to be in debt? Quite not free. Right? Anytime you see a text from the one you owe, you freak out, sometimes ignore the text and other times, change your mood. Debt is not a good thing, which is why God’s Word frowns upon it (see Romans 13:8). But in Romans 8:12, Paul, inspired by the Holy Spirit, sheds some light on another debt believers have—this time, not about money, but the Spirit.
The Bible says that as a child of God, you are not a debtor to the flesh. So, if that’s true in your life, then the most obvious way to confirm this is that you don’t live according to the flesh. However, the word “flesh” has several meanings in different areas of the Bible. In Romans 8:12, it refers to the human nature, not sin or any sort of evil.
With this understanding in view, you are not a slave to earthly things many people work hard to get. In today’s world, several people work to earn money, build wealth and self- empires, and on top of that, neglect their relationship with God. God doesn’t want you to end up living like that. He called you to make an impact, and every money you get has to be viewed as a means to help you fulfil that divine purpose He has placed in your life. Avoid living to fulfil the expectations of others or to even catch up with your friends. Your path is different, so accept it and be different!
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, help me to live to fulfil Your will every day of my life. May I never forget to do what You brought me on Earth to do. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
