by[25] “God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood —to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished” – Romans 3:25 (NIV)
Yesterday, we learnt that God’s righteousness, which in Romans 3:24 means justification, is given through faith. But today, I want us to discuss what happened before that transition from the law to grace: Jesus Christ’s crucifixion.
In Romans 3:25, the Bible says God presented Christ as a sacrifice for atonement, through the shedding of His blood, to be received by faith. But why? So that He will demonstrate His righteousness (justification for humanity’s sin). All throughout the Old Testament, God forbore people’s sins, and they went unpunished. Well, you may say God chastised some Israelites in the Old Testament who sinned, especially anytime they embraced idolatry. But before Him, all those things were not punished to the degree they were supposed to. So, guess what? He placed all those sins on Jesus, turned Him into sin (see 2 Corinthians 5:21), and nailed the sin to the cross.
Today, your sins are no longer imputed on you because Jesus Christ has borne them on the cross. So, instead of beating yourself up for all the wrongdoings you may have done, show the devil that Jesus has paid for your sins. Therefore, you have been set free in Christ. Walk in this consciousness, and you’ll enjoy your freedom.
