By[9] “Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.” – Mark 10:9 (NKJV)
I sometimes get amazed at people who work so hard at separating people God has ordained to be together, especially in marriage or a godly relationship leading to marriage. Too many people have become relationship advisors with ungodly content and still don’t see anything wrong with it.
The Holy Spirit Himself commissioned Paul and Barnabas to do the work of the ministry together. But later in the book of Acts, they went their separate ways because of some disagreements. For this, it wasn’t other people that separated them but they themselves.
But for marriage, it’s quite different. Jesus was ministering about marriage in Mark chapter 9, and in conclusion, He said (paraphrasing) that let no man separate what God has joined together. That’s so instructional. As a friend to a married couple, what do you tell them? Do you encourage couples to divorce because of marital issues or redirect them back to the God who institutionalised their union?
We must be careful about the advice we give others when they come to us for help. You might be breaching God’s rule when you tell people, especially couples, to separate. There is a solution to every problem. So make up your mind never to serve as a reference point to make someone disobey God’s principles.
