[29] “For to you it has been granted on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake,” – Philippians 1:29 (NKJV)
Did you know that suffering for Christ is part of your faith journey? Usually, when we go out to evangelise to people about Jesus, we don’t tell them. And I believe it’s a wise thing to do. However, it’s unwise not to say to the believer that he’ll not face tribulations for the cause of the gospel. That won’t make preaching well-balanced.
Today, several believers don’t like to endure even the slightest suffering for the spread of the gospel. Some don’t want to be insulted, so they keep quiet about the message of Christ instead of preaching it loudly wherever they are—both in talk and deeds. It’s not surprising that several churches are not steadily growing because believers are not doing the work of the ministry. Hmm!!
Just as Paul told the Philippian church that in Christ, they’ve been granted the ability to both believe in Christ and to suffer for His sake, so I urge you to embrace suffering as you live to fulfil your divine mandate. Not every day will be calm; some days will be rough. But never let the gospel be chained in your mouth in all things. Keep standing for Christ no matter the persecution and live wisely among unbelievers.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Lord, empower me to endure every rough situation as I fulfil my divine mandate. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
