[27] “Stop listening to instruction, my son, and you will stray from the words of knowledge.” – Proverbs 19:27 (NIV)
There is something I have found hard to understand after observing it for quite a while. That is, how the human body reacts to indicate that it needs to get fed. How interesting! So, no matter how much you eat each day, you’ll eat again. Why? Because without constantly feeding your body, it’ll deteriorate with time. That is why it is work to take good care of your body, which is God’s temple. And for that reason, investing in your health is never evil.
Let’s put the human body aside and talk about the human spirit. Just as the body wants to get fed every day, so does your spirit. Anybody who feeds his human body and ignores his soul (specifically, the mind) and spirit will have an imbalanced life. That is why there are wealthy people who don’t know anything about Jesus.
God, through Solomon, in Proverbs 19:27, said (paraphrasing) that anybody who stops listening to instruction will stray from the words of knowledge. In other words, if you stop feeding your spirit, you’ll start living a wayward life. If you want to know how true this is, ask those who stopped attending church. Such people start engaging in evil things they never thought of. Why? Because they stopped going to the place they’ll get their spirits fed with God’s Word.
Friend, keep feeding your spirit. Never leave it to chance. Avoid opening your Bible only on Sundays to prove a point. No! Make time for God each day. It pays so much to do this.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for the provision of Your Word in my life. I pray, in the name of Jesus, help me to build structures in my life that will make me keep feeding my spirit with Your Word. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
