“…to serve as a sign among you. In the future, when your children ask you, ‘What do these stones mean?’ tell them that the flow of the Jordan was cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord. When it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones are to be a memorial to the people of Israel forever.” — Joshua 4:6 - 7 NIV
When the Israelites crossed the Jordan river to enter Canaan on dry grounds, God spoke to Joshua that he should choose and tell twelve men from each tribe of Israel to take up twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan so that they’d carry over and put them in the place they’ll spend the night that day (Joshua 4:2-3).
Later on, after this had been done, by spiritual insight, Joshua told the Israelites why he made them do it. That is, “In the future, when your children ask you, ‘What do these stones mean?’ tell them that the flow of the Jordan was cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord. When it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off.”
From this, I can say that God is interested in making future generations remember His wondrous works in the lives of His people, even after they’re gone so that this evidence will cure the doubt of His power in manifestation.
Friend, things are changing in our generation. It seems how God worked so many miracles in the lives of people like Charles Finney, John Wesley, Kenneth Hagin, and the likes aren’t like that today. Can I tell you something?
Read their books, watch their videos, as bad as the quality may be, and listen to their preaching tapes. They’ll give you much wisdom about how they lived and sought God to get those results.
Jesus wants you to do greater works. But He has also called others ahead of you to look unto and imitate their faith. Remember your leaders, and submit to their authority. Christ Jesus, be with you.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Oh God, connect me to testimonies and resources of people who’re gone yet pursued You to the extent of yielding great results; so that I’ll be encouraged to press on to fulfil my mandate as Your child. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
