[13] “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. [14] Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.” — Matthew 7:13 - 14 NKJV
When you have many options for one thing you want, it’s easy to have a wandering eye because of multiple choices. But when you only have one choice, you’ll not think twice about what to choose.
Sometimes, people think there are several life alternatives to the gospel of Jesus Christ. So they try out this way and that way, only to end up in confusion. And that’s what Jesus said in Matthew 7:13: “… for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.”
However, when you understand that as a child of God, you only have one life, that is, the eternal life of God, you’ll be determined to use it for kingdom profiting no matter what you’re doing. If you eat, it’s unto God’s glory. If you clothe yourself well, it’s to honour and steward God’s temple (1 Corinthians 13:5). If you build a house, it’s to help you have a home. So that thinking about where to sleep won’t be a bother to you as you continue fulfilling your divine purpose.
Narrow is the gate, and difficult is the way that leads to (eternal) life. Yes, Christ lives in you. But to live unto Him, be thus present-minded that you have no alternative to the gospel. So if it requires you to forsake your comfort to live unto God, there’s grace to live like that, and you’ve got to embrace it.
If Paul didn’t have an easy life, but his labour, largely his written epistles, continues to profit many people, including you and me, how much more can grace empower you to live unto Him?
Many people want to live a loose life, exploring several things just for fun. But eternal life isn’t about that. It’s about purpose. And where purpose is, discipline is also present. Submit yourself to God‘s leadership, and you’ll experience the tangible manifestations of the purpose-driven life in Christ Jesus.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for making the gate to eternal life small and its road narrow so that Your children will live on purpose. Create discipline around my life with this divine insight, that I’ll handle it in ways that glorify your name. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
