Will You Leave Everything For Jesus’ Sake?

“And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.” — Matthew 19:29 NIV

I had one minister friend tell me some time ago that people ask him what he gets from praying. He said to me, “They don’t know what Jesus has done in me.” I replied, “wow,” in amazement. That is someone who used to do all kinds of evil things, but Jesus has transformed and continues to transform lives. What will you do with the Holy Spirit?

Truthfully, it costs to follow Jesus. But the benefits far outweigh the costs. Peter told Jesus in Matthew 19:27 (NIV) that,

“… We have left everything to follow you! What then will there be for us?”

But Jesus gave an absolute reply to Peter’s agitation in Matthew 19:29, which is the anchor text for today’s Word.

It has never happened that those who left houses, family members and several worldly commitments to follow Jesus end up miserable. No! Jesus said that such people would receive a hundredfold and inherit eternal life. That means; if you follow Jesus wholeheartedly, everything you forsook or lost to remain committed to Him will be overly replenished in unimaginable multiplication. However, it boils down to a single decision – will you leave everything for Jesus’ sake?

It costs to follow Jesus. But the benefits far outweigh the costs.

You see, receiving the things in the kingdom of God isn’t by mere chance or declarations you make. No! It’s by believing the Word of God and acting upon it with intentionality.

Never allow anyone to deceive you that whatever you’re doing for God is a waste of time. No! It’s, instead, a wise spiritual investment that will yield incredible results, both on Earth and in heaven – said Jesus (Matthew 19:29). Keep serving the Lord acceptably.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer

Father, help me to remain committed to serving you all the days of my life. When it comes to times I have to sacrifice things to obey you, give me the grace to make and stick to that godly decision without wavering. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
