[28] “You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, ‘I am not the Christ,’ but, ‘I have been sent before Him.’ [29] He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore this joy of mine is fulfilled. [30] He must increase, but I must decrease.” — John 3:28 - 30 NKJV
When a friend of yours shares a victory he had recently had or an unprecedented promotion he got from work with you, do you get intimidated, or do you celebrate with him with a clean mindset?
Many people tend to compare their lives with others subtly in their minds. So when things are going on well for others close to them, they get a little disturbed in their minds. It’s not new because it happened to John the Baptist too.
John the Baptist had just baptised Jesus in the river of Jordan a few months ago (it’s over a month because Jesus spent forty days in the wilderness fasting and praying). And in no time, Jesus’ ministry was booming higher than his. So people came to him, saying,
“… Rabbi, He who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you have testified—behold, He is baptizing, and all are coming to Him!”
John 3:26 NKJV
John the Baptist could have gotten offended by their Word because those who patronised his ministry was declining. But he said,
“You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, ‘I am not the Christ,’ but, ‘I have been sent before Him.’”.
John 3:28 NKJV
John was already insured in his spiritual identity. Therefore, He had God’s Word to counter the spirit of competition fast arising in the ministry terrain during those times.
Do you know who you are in Christ? Please, I’m not speaking about you being a child of God. Instead, I’m talking about your specific mandate. Do you know what God has called you to do? If yes, you’ll be insured in your spiritual identity because what others are doing won’t ever make you feel less significant.
Many of the insecurities the devil plagues people’s minds are just because of one thing – lack of knowledge about purpose. Today, “I want to do this.” Tomorrow, “I want to do that.” Friend, don’t be deceived. Life isn’t for experimentation. It’s supposed to be lived on purpose with intentionality, and only God can give you that privilege. Instead of comparing yourself with others for what they do, approach God to show you what you’re called to do. It’ll settle every insecurity about your eternal ordination in Christ.
Prayer:
Father, show me what I’m called to do. Create discipline around my life to get occupied with the fulfilment of my divine assignment so that I’ll not be intimidated by what others are doing. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
