Do Not Conform to Your Previous Desires

[14] “As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.” – 1 Peter 1:14 (NIV)

Some believers think coming to Christ means accepting a life without struggles and suffering. So, the people who were preached unto that coming to Christ is about getting so many physical possessions get disappointed after a short time in church. What a tragedy! Today, I want to address another struggle many Christians face, usually in their closets. It’s called evil desires.

When a person isn’t saved, the spirit of disobedience operates in him. As such, his life constantly emanates pure evil without his control. Surprisingly, the Bible never says when an unbeliever accepts Christ, his struggles with these evil desires will cease. No! Sometimes, the battle to live in victory over fleshly desires becomes harder when you get born again. Why? Because the war between the desires of the flesh and that of the Spirit sets ablaze in your soul. Why? Because now that you are born again, God’s Spirit in you will constantly urge you to live and do things that please God, not the devil.

Peter, knowing how real this struggle is, wrote expressly about it in 1 Peter 1:14. Inspired by the Holy Spirit, he urged us not to conform to the evil desires we had when we weren’t in the light. Get the spiritual illumination in the scripture imbibed in your spirit. Sometimes, that desire to go back into those secret sins will come. But hey, when that moment comes, it’s time to pray. Do not let the devil’s evil suggestions overpower you. Submit your ways to God.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your divine enablement to live in victory in Christ. I know that Your power in me is strong enough to help me win the battle against evil desires that the devil wages in my mind. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
