If Anybody Does Sin

[1] “My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.” – 1 John 2:1 (NIV)

Did you know that Christ Jesus is your advocate with the Father and is, thus, praying for you? So many people think Christ, in His post-incarnation life, is doing nothing in heaven. That’s a lie; don’t believe that! Jesus Christ is still interceding for us, children of God in heaven, according to the Father’s will (see Hebrews 7:25, Romans 8:27,34). And so, because of that, you must be rest assured that in Christ, you are not abandoned.

Several Christians have this problem. They think that just because they got involved in wrongdoing means that God has abandoned them. It is not true. God will never leave nor forsake you. However, He doesn’t want you to live bound by the dictates of sin because it’s a thief of joy in the Spirit. That is why He has given you the Spirit of grace, to live above the dictates of the sinful flesh. But that’s not all. There is a provision for the believers who falter in Christ, and 1 John 2:1 explains this.

The scripture says that “… if anybody does sin…”. Note, it doesn’t say “… when anybody does sin”. That means living beyond the dictates of sinful flesh is possible in Christ, and you can do it because of the Spirit of grace in you. But in case you falter, remember your advocate, lest you let the devil plunge you into self-condemnation. May the Lord empower you to live above the dictates of sinful flesh. In Jesus’ name. Amen!

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, empower me to live in the way of Your righteousness every now and then. Let my life radiate Your glory wherever I go. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
