You Have Been Set Free from Sin

[21] “So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. [22] For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; [23] but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. [24] What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? [25] Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!” – Romans 7:21-25 (NIV)

I haven’t entered the prison yard before, but I have lived in a city where there is a prison with prison officer barracks around it. Guess what? Sometimes, I see some of the prisoners being taken out for labour work, and sometimes, how badly they beg passers-by for money to buy even water. They might be walking around, but they are suffering. In the same way, when the Bible says a person is a slave to sin, it’s not about the physical location of the person but the state of the person’s life. A slave of sin cannot control himself when it comes to sin; he’ll just submit to it because the devil has painted the mind about sin to be good in such a person.

There is great news for everyone today from the Word of God. Even though the law of sin works in every unbeliever, one can be set free from sin by God’s deliverance (salvation) through Jesus Christ our Lord. So, if you are saved, you have been set free from sin and its entire consequences. Why? Because Christ Jesus has delivered you from God’s wrath.

What are you a slave to? Is it food addiction, video games, pornography, lying, stealing, saying insults, or whatever sin comes to mind? Christ’s power to deliver you supersedes the grip of all these sins. You don’t need good advice to live a life of victory in Christ Jesus; you need God. Accept that you need help and that the Lord is willing to help you.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for saving me. To anyone who still feels trapped in a certain kind of sin, Father, deliver them right now. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
