Clamp Down Your Worry List

[41] And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. [42] But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.” – Luke 10:41-42 (NKJV)

Many people like to worry, even though you’ll not see them do it. Sometimes, it’s challenging when people think so much about their life situation and ever wonder when it will get better for them, even amid their busy lifestyle. But worrying has never added even one second to anybody’s life. Sometimes, living in the present despite all your various future plans is the best thing to do. See how Jesus taught it.

One time, Jesus visited Mary and Martha, whose brother was Lazarus, the one Jesus raised from the dead. As soon as He arrived in their abode with His disciples, Mary didn’t head over to the kitchen to prepare food for the men, although Martha did. She chose to sit at the feet of Jesus to listen to Him. Later, Martha came to Jesus complaining that Mary wasn’t helping her with the kitchen work. It’s like having two sisters in the same house, but one neglecting house chores. It’s both worrying and frustrating, especially for women because women are homemakers. Martha thought Jesus would tell Mary to get up and help her sister. But He didn’t. He told her that Mary’s decision to sit and listen to Him was quite better. What can we learn from this?

You have to learn how to clamp down your worry list in your mind, especially when you are with Jesus in prayer or in church. If you don’t do this, busying yourself won’t make you enjoy the Lord, even as a minister doing His work. Before God, devotion unto Him precedes duty for Him, although both are important. Don’t misplace this priority in your life.

You are a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, help me to be still before You whenever I come fellowshipping with You. May I never overbusy myself too much that I don’t enjoy You. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
