“But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers.” — I Peter 4:7 NKJV
Prayer is good but becomes more directional when there’s a watching. For example, if I know God will take me to great places in future, spending a few months to pray about my destiny makes my prayers more directional and not just scattered, always asking God for things to satisfy my daily life pleasures.
Apostle Peter told some believers that because the end of all things is imminent, they should be serious and watchful in their prayers. Doesn’t it go to us, believers in Christ? Yes, it is because we’re also children of God.
The believers in the early church may have anticipated the second coming of Jesus too imminent. And even though Jesus didn’t come at the time they expected, at least that portion of his letter created an urgency in the spirits of the believers who read it to take prayer more seriously.
Friend, God is the creator of time. He’s not in a rush to do things. But your destiny is time-bound. You cannot do what God programmed your life to do at age 20 when you turn 75. No!
Maybe you’re a young minister reading this right now. Go to God to show you His vision for your life. And after He reveals it to you, be serious and watchful in your prayers, directing them towards that revelation. It’ll help you become very focused and naturally give you the power to overcome distractions.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, help me become serious and watchful in my prayers. Give me a vision that’d make me diligent and clear every iota of laziness out of my life. I choose to serve You and help fulfil the mission of Jesus – in filling all things. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
