[9] “Provide neither gold nor silver nor copper in your money belts, [10] nor bag for your journey, nor two tunics, nor sandals, nor staffs; for a worker is worthy of his food.” — Matthew 10:9 - 10 NKJV
One strange thing I saw Jesus do, as written in the Bible, is the odd instructions He gives to anybody He sends to preach the Word. One time, He was about to send the twelve disciples out to preach the gospel. And He told them not to carry money, sandals, tunics or even staff on themselves as they fulfil His mandate. Why? Because a worker deserves his wages.
So Jesus is saying every preacher is a worker, and his wages shall be provided mysteriously. That is why many young Christians feel afraid when God calls them to do ministry without any side jobs. They sense that they’ll lack provision and hence, will suffer.
Yes, some preachers suffer. But the question is, do you trust God to provide? God isn’t an evil God. No! He doesn’t suffocate His workers by not giving them their wages. He provides, but not according to the way we expect Him to.
For example, God can tell someone to cook food for a preacher to eat for free. But that preacher may not know it’s God who inspired that fellow to do the cooking. It’s the same for offerings in church and other ways God uses to provide financially to His people.
However, God is a wise investor. He doesn’t provide for people focused on destroying the mission of Jesus, such as sex trafficking, adultery and other works of the flesh. So here’s the point. God will provide for your divine vision if He’s the source of it.
Jesus is the One who sent the twelve apostles to preach the gospel; they didn’t send themselves. If you’re experiencing a consistent lack in your area of service in God’s kingdom, go to Him for a refreshed vision. Maybe, you’re not functioning where you ought to be in the body of Christ. Because if you’re serving God in your right realm of influence, He will provide for you, for both your enjoyment and the growth of the vision.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, I pray, align my life according to the specific purpose You created me to fulfil. Trim anything in my life which isn’t linked to my divine purpose, so that I’ll focus on doing what I’m born to do and not just anything that comes by. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
