Be Rooted and Built Up in the Lord

[6] “As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, [7] rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.” – Colossians 2:6-7 (NKJV)

Even if you’ve not done a backyard garden, I suppose you may have seen a tree grow from a seedling to a stable plant one way or the other. We know that it takes some time to do it. Right? Even farmers will tell you that if you don’t water trees when they are little, they may die. Yes, so it is in Christ. Every new convert starts as a babe in Christ and will only mature spiritually when submitted to constant discipleship, especially in the church system.

When Paul wrote his epistle to the Colossians, he counselled the believers in the Colossian church that just as they had received Christ, they must walk in Him. But that’s not all. They must also be rooted and built up in the Lord, and that takes time. But I like what Paul said because it made the believers know that nobody gets to know the Lord so well without consistent discipleship.

As a Christian, don’t make your pastor solely responsible for your discipleship. Set up systems and structures in your life that will allow you to spend a lot of quality time with the Lord. As you grow, you’ll get busier. So, start early, and it’ll help you in your faith journey.

You are a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your gift of salvation in my life. Help me to love and honour You all the days of my life as I get to know You more intimately each day. Amen!
