[34] “Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are healthy, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are unhealthy, your body also is full of darkness. [35] See to it, then, that the light within you is not darkness.” – Luke 11:34-35 (NIV)
After reading today’s devotional anchor text, I want you to do a short exercise. Try walking around with your eyes closed. What happens? You will realise that you cannot coordinate your body well and bump into items on your way. I can imagine how blind people are suffering, especially those who don’t have others to guide them.
Jesus said something profound in Luke 11:35, which I see as a cautionary message to every believer: “See to it … that the light within you is not darkness.” What did Jesus mean by saying this? I mean, how can light become darkness? After all, light has nothing to do with darkness. Right? But Jesus wasn’t communicating logic; He was talking about spiritual truth here.
Jesus meant that believers should be careful what they receive as spiritual truth. Why? Because if what they believe turns out to be a lie, it’s just like having darkness as your light, but you don’t know. It’s sad to say that many professing Christians have fallen for this. They get deceived in churches every day, but because they cannot distinguish truth from lies due to a lack of fellowship with the Lord, they continue in this lifestyle. Mercy!
Child of God, you ought to live wisely in this perverse generation. You shouldn’t leave your labour to know the Lord intimately to chance. Because, I tell you, it won’t happen by automation. And the more you know God, the more you will be free from deception. May the Lord be your light.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, help me to know You better each day so that the light of Your Word in me will become brighter and brighter in my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
