Grace Teaches Us to Say No to Ungodliness

[11] “For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, [12] teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age,” — Titus 2:11-12 NKJV

When I was newly born again, I had the privilege of listening to various sermons on grace for a long while. And they looked too good for me to hear. But over time, people helped me to mature steadily in the Spirit and how to develop a consistent Bible study lifestyle. And today, I’m so grateful to them. One of the principal revelations God gave me about grace is its ability to help me deny ungodliness and worldly lust. And I saw this in Titus 2:12, so powerful.

According to that verse, God’s grace – the person of Christ in us, teaches us to say no to all manner of ungodliness. That means that what will inspire a child of God to say “no” to evil suggestions of people and the enemy’s whispers in the mind is grace, not his efforts or human strategies.

The same grace that empowers the believer to do extraordinary things for God’s kingdom also has the inherent capacity to desist him from ungodly ways of living. Today, I want you to view grace beyond the understanding that it’s an unmerited favour from God to man.

Grace is the influence of God on a man’s heart. And that influence is potent enough to make him live like Jesus in all endeavours of life, regardless of the amount of persecutions he’ll face for the sake of the gospel.

Look at the great things Paul did for Jesus. He could have taken the glory unto himself. But in 1 Corinthians 15:10, he gave credit to God’s grace for everything. That tells us that our good works of divine purpose fulfilment and the tenacity to reject wrongdoings are by grace and grace alone.

If you’re struggling with any secret sin right now, declare this unto yourself every day: “Grace teaches me to deny ungodliness. I am more than a conqueror in Christ Jesus.” Amen!

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, glorify Yourself in me by leading me in the way of Your righteousness. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
