Freedom is a precious gift, yet many do not understand its true purpose. In Christ, you experience a unique freedom that goes beyond just being liberated from sin; it helps you to live in a way that honours God. This freedom empowers you to make wise choices and discern what truly benefits your faith in Christ. Furthermore, the freedom in Christ is more than simply having the ability to choose wisely—it also empowers you to make decisions that align with God’s purpose. In this article, you’ll discover how to use your freedom in Christ wisely by doing what is right, choosing what is beneficial, and standing firm in the gospel. Read on.

You have the right to do anything

In 1 Corinthians 10:23, Paul said, “I have the right to do anything,” but quickly added, “… not everything is beneficial. That means, as a believer, God has granted you an amazing freedom in Him, yet He calls you to live responsibly. Your freedom in Christ is intended to help you grow spiritually and fulfil God’s plan for your life rather than indulge in activities that could lead you astray. Through Christ, you are freed from the bondage of sin and invited to embrace a life filled with purpose and holiness.

In Christ, you experience a unique freedom that goes beyond just being liberated from sin; it helps you to live in a way that honours God.

For those without Christ, life may appear free, but sin often holds them captive, keeping them from reaching their true potential in God. They may not realise that their choices are limiting and not liberating. But as a Christian, you are different. Choose to set yourself aside to use your freedom wisely by honouring God in all that you do. Remember, as His child, you are called to a higher standard.

Do what is beneficial

Getting back to Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians 10:23 when He said, “… not everything is beneficial,” you have a responsibility to make good choices. While you have the freedom to make your own choices, your decisions must strengthen and edify you wholly in honour of God. Ask yourself whether your actions build up your faith and help you fulfil your purpose in Christ or not. If not, it’s time to evaluate your life and get back on track with God.

Recognising that your freedom in Christ is a gift and not an entitlement can profoundly impact your life. It will help you to seek what truly benefits you and others. By making genuinely beneficial choices, you protect yourself from harmful consequences and move closer to a life that reflects Christ’s wisdom.

Stand firm in the gospel

Moreover, freedom in Christ also implores you to stand firm in the gospel, especially when the world tries to pull people in different, ungodly directions. Hold tightly to Christ’s teachings and root yourself steadfastly in the faith (see Colossians 2:7). You have the power to choose to follow Christ, even in challenging times. Live courageously and uphold the truth of the gospel, even in a culture that speaks against it. When you stand firm, you affirm your commitment to Christ and preach a powerful message about Christ to those around you. Use this freedom to stay firm in God’s Word and be resilient against worldly things.
