Four Ways Of Using God’s Word For Your Benefit

God’s Word is God’s law. It has several functionalities and is beneficial for many things. God intentionally helped His servants bring out the Bible because He knew how important it would be in our lives. Today, I want you to learn four ways of using God’s Word for your benefit, according to 2 Timothy 3:16-17. But before that, let’s read the scripture.

[16] “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, [17] that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NKJV)

Scripture is profitable for doctrine

The word “doctrine” means theology or teaching. So your Bible is a worthwhile material to teach people its content. But how can kids learn from a textbook if the teacher doesn’t know what’s in it?

Therefore, to make God’s Word benefit your life holistically, you must be its student – not because you’re a preacher, but because you’re God’s child. And the more you study, the greater you’ll become spiritually nourished with divine knowledge.

Scripture is profitable for reproof and correction

The word “reproof” is synonymous with rebuke or correction. So God’s Word has the capacity to rebuke you of wrongdoing, sometimes, from a scripture you read. Proverbs 12:1 NKJV says,

“Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid.”

It’s only a stupid person that hates correction. In other words, it’s foolish not to love the Bible because of its corrective patterns of impact on your life.

As humans, we’ll keep making mistakes because we’re not perfect people. We need corrections every time. There could be times we’d not even know some of our actions are wrong until the Word of God exposes it. So be prone to Biblical corrections. It will help you improve your intimacy with the Lord and your relationship with others.

Scripture is profitable for instruction in righteousness

God has given man instructions to follow; they are all in the Bible. So when you’re God’s righteousness, the instructions you need to manifest the eternal life in you are found in the Word. That’s why the Psalmist says in Psalm 119:105 (NKJV),

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

The Word of God is your guide, both in your short-term and long-term decisions.

Now after knowing these things, what next? Prioritise Bible study as a child of God. Make time for it so you can enjoy all the benefits of it. Shalom!
