[11] “In that day “I will restore David’s fallen shelter — I will repair its broken walls and restore its ruins — and will rebuild it as it used to be, [12] so that they may possess the remnant of Edom and all the nations that bear my name, ” declares the LORD, who will do these things.” — Amos 9:11-12 (NIV)
Whenever you read the Old Testament, especially the prophetic books, and see the phrase “In that day,” it refers to the dispensation of grace. That is, the New Covenant.
I read Amos 9:11-12 one fine morning, and I was shocked. God says David’s generation may possess the remnant of Edom. But the question is, ‘What is Edom’? Edom refers to the generation of Esau, whom God hated. They’re not of the promise because their ancestor, Esau, married women from clans God has cursed (see Genesis 9:25, Genesis 10:15, Genesis 26:34, Genesis 28:9).
Therefore, if God says David’s generation, who are now believers in Christ, may possess the remnant of Edom, it means that unbelievers have taken authority over in every realm of life and will eventually be overtaken by believers. But before that, God says He’ll restore David’s fallen shelter, repair broken walls, restore ruins and rebuild it as it used to be (as He had purposed the Earth to be before man ever lived). Why? Because such work is needed to ensure the dominion mandate of Jesus through the Church becomes effective.
Today, if you sense God is reordering various areas of your life, it’s because He’s preparing you for greater dominion in your area of calling. Never despise the chastening of the Lord. And remember today’s teaching.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, prepare me adequately for wherever you’re taking me. I choose to trust You in my development process, my Lord. Amen!
