[5] “It is not good to be partial to the wicked and so deprive the innocent of justice.” — Proverbs 18:5 (NIV)
I’m not a lawyer, nor do I frequently go to court to see its proceedings. But as a minister, I’ve had the privilege of judging cases presented to me between people, some as close friends. In all the encounters I’ve had, I always remember using my knowledge of God’s Word to judge irrespective of my relationship with any of the people before me. And I’ve seen that using God’s Word as the standard has cost me friendships. Yet, I don’t lose hope in God. But am I trying to use my story as a doctrine? No! What I’ve encountered is just a buttress of what the preacher said in Proverbs 18:5.
It is never good to be partial to the wicked and deprive the innocent of justice. That means don’t place justice ahead of ungodly favour. It is the opposite.
Most wicked people who end up in bad cases in life have money. So what they do is that they use their money to bribe judges, lawyers and some policemen to judge cases in their favour. And because of that, the righteous suffer injustice. No wonder Jesus spoke about a parable of a woman who sought diligently for justice from an ungodly judge in Luke 18.
Do you rightly judge cases brought before you? Or do you follow after lusts and money to overturn the tables to favour the wicked? Step up and uphold the principles of God’s Word, even if you have enemies. The Lord is your strength.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for the provision of Your unfailing Word. Give me the wisdom to judge cases rightly at all times. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
