“[17] If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty. [18] But even if he doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.” — Daniel 3:17 - 18 NLT
A conviction is a firmly held belief. Faith in Christ isn’t a feeling but a conviction that’s so powerful that it dictates how we live as children of God.
We live in a world that lies in wickedness (1 John 5:19). So there are so many structures and systems that are against the manifestation of the sons of God. That’s why persecution still exists in our world. To many believers, life is a struggle because it’s not just about existing but also living with intentionality unto God’s glory.
The world’s system is like that of Babylon. The Israelites were in exile, and they were made to obey the laws of that land. Nebuchadnezzar, being the king, had the power to do whatever he liked. So in order to make people worship him, he made a golden statue.
Many Israelites bowed to the graven image. But Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego didn’t do it. They got reported to the king and brought before him. Nevertheless, they were relentless. They stuck to their conviction that God is greater than the king, and only Him deserves their worship.
Today, it’s not about physical idols but worldly ways of doing things. For example, when there’s a system in your workplace that takes more of your time to work, so much so that it affects your time to go to church, it’s Babylon in manifestation. They may deceive you to think you’ll get more money for overtime. But that’s not the case. When you agree and normalise it in your life, you’re indirectly signing up to serve mammon.
God never created anything to replace Him in our lives, including our divine purpose. Stick to your godly convictions that are rooted in God’s Word. Be unwavering in these things. Live with intentionality and use everything you have to glorify God.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, I pray that You’ll change my perspective of viewing things in this world. Give me spiritual insight to comprehend how things work; that I won’t be deceived by worldly lusts as I choose to follow You every step of my way. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
