You Have Forbearance Against Any Temptation That Comes Your Way

[13] “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” – 1 Corinthians 10:13 (NKJV)

What is forbearance? It simply means patient self-control. That virtue is an integral part of the fruit of the Spirit (see Galatians 5:22-23). That means you cannot have that spirit of forbearance if you are not born again. And if you’re saved, you have it. Hallelujah. With this understanding in view, let’s talk about today’s devotional anchor text – 1 Corinthians 10:13.

The Bible says that there’s no temptation that comes before any man without his inherent ability to resist falling short of it. That means two things.

  1. You have forbearance against any temptation that comes your way.
  2. If you ever fell to any temptation, it’s either you forgot to resist the devil or flee from it, especially if it concerns sexual immorality (see 1 Corinthians 10:14, 2 Timothy 2:22).

God has given you everything pertaining to life and godliness (see 2 Peter 1:3). Those things don’t just include spiritual blessings but also things like creativity and physical agility to choose God’s path every day. Don’t downplay this privilege. Use it well.

You are a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, help me to live in the consciousness that I am a victor and not a victim against any temptation that comes my way. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
