[19] “The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ But wisdom is proved right by her deeds.” – Matthew 11:19 (NIV)
In the book of Proverbs, the Preacher described wisdom as a female by using the word “her” several times in reference to wisdom. It is, however, not surprising to me that the word “her” was used in Matthew 11:19 to describe wisdom. Although people underrate it, wisdom is a powerful possession every believer must intentionally ask God for. When you have the spirit of wisdom operating in your life in a high way, it gives meaning to whatever you do. In fact, it helps you to live unconfused about life. That was what Jesus had, and several people misunderstood Him.
John the Baptist was around before Jesus started ministry and expanded in visibility. That man of God (John) didn’t like eating and drinking. In fact, God raised him in the wilderness, so he was used to fasting. But when Jesus showed up, people thought He would live like John the Baptist did, but that wasn’t the case. They accused Him of eating and drinking in several places, including the ones in tax collectors’ homes like Zaccheus. But He said, “… wisdom is proved right by her deeds.” That means that if you are confused about someone’s lifestyle, check his results.
Undoubtedly, Jesus was doing things Israel had never seen before. So, even though they were accusing Him, His works silenced many onlookers. Today, I believe there are several men of God that people talk negatively about their lifestyles. Sometimes, those who accuse the servants of God can be their own families. What do you think will happen to such people? They won’t benefit from the anointing upon the ministers in their homes, just as the Nazarenes failed to honour Jesus upon His ministerial return to the town (see Matthew 13:54-58).
Dear one, don’t despise men of God, no matter how different their lifestyles may be to you. Ministry comes with so much consecration, so the servants of God will never have a normal life like the masses. I repeat, it will never happen. It’s better to adapt to them rather than despise them.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for life. Give me more wisdom to live a life that pleases You every step of the way. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
