Things That Cause People to Stumble Are Bound to Come

[1] Jesus said to his disciples: “Things that cause people to stumble are bound to come, but woe to anyone through whom they come.” – Luke 17:1 (NIV)

One of the nicest experiences in life is to go to a place as a fresh person. When you do that, you may not have all the confidence to interact with people freely. Aside from that, you’ll be completely oblivious to the fact that there are problems at the new place you’ve just gone. It could be a church, an organisation, a company or even a family (speaking about getting married to a lady from a different family, making their family a part of your family). But relationships are complex. The longer you stay at a place, the more you will start realising some loopholes and problems there.

Today, many people are in churches but are no longer getting the maximum fruit they can get from the Word preached there because of many offences against some people in the same church. Sadly, certain people don’t sit side by side anymore because they aren’t on talking terms. But what did Jesus say about these things?

In Luke 17:1, Jesus told His disciples, “Things that cause people to stumble are bound to come, but woe to anyone through whom they come.” Yes, some preachers quote this scripture in reference to Judas Iscariot. But I think Jesus spoke these words with generations in mind. As it is happening today, offences are everywhere, especially in families, churches and workplaces. Nobody can prevent them from happening because Jesus said they are bound to come. So, even if you are the nicest person on Earth and a master of relationships with diverse kinds of people, you cannot prevent people from offending you or creating a mess among the people you fellowship with. So, focus on living in peace with people.

You are a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for giving me peace in life. Help me to navigate my relationships with others well. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
