[25] “For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.” – 1 Corinthians 1:25 (NIV)
Does God have a weakness? Are you intrigued by this question? I suppose so because I was also surprised when I saw this from 1 Corinthians 1:25, where I got the title of this sermon. Many people talk about the truth that the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, but few talk about the truth that the weakness of God is stronger than human strength. Let’s look into this.
In 1 John 1:5 (NKJV), the Bible says, “… God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.” So, in God, there is no trace of evil. Hence, His weakness has nothing to do with sin or evil. Secondly, God is holy. So, in His holiness, He is all-around perfect. The question is, if God is holy and in Him is no darkness, what then is His weakness (note that the word “weakness” was what was used in 1 Corinthians 1:25, not “weaknesses”)? Here is the answer.
God’s weakness is tied to Jesus allowing Himself to be crucified on the cross for humanity’s atonement for sin. That weakness (one-time event), the Bible says, is even stronger than human strength. So, just because Jesus laid down His life in a weaker state of His body doesn’t mean that he was weak. In essence, that crucifixion He went through is stronger than human strength, making nobody ever match Jesus’ spiritual capacity to go through that suffering. Think about this. When was the last time you heard that someone cried blood (suffered from haemolacria)? It’s a very, very rare medical condition. But Jesus faced it because of you. He’s a strong saviour. Don’t boast about your strength before God. Acknowledge His strength in your life.
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for sending Your Son to die for me. I know that I am valued in Your presence. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
