The Solution to Faintness

“And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;” — Luke 18:1 KJV

To faint means to lose heart, be discouraged or grow weary of doing good. Naturally, people grow faint-hearted after staying on one thing for long. But in Christ, Jesus has provided a solution to this. That is prayer.

Jesus narrated a parable in Luke 18:1-8 to teach that men ought always to pray and not faint. This parable is about a widow who wanted justice from her adversary through an ungodly judge. Although there’s nowhere in the parable stating that the widow prayed persistently, it is evident that the widow was consistent with taking action to get what she wanted — justice.

Many times, when we battle to get a solution to faintness in our lives, we fail to determine what we want specifically. For example, some married people want to continue staying married, but because they’re enduring (instead of enjoying their marriage), they prefer to divorce willingly. Well, I’d say that marriage is an institution set up by God since the beginning of creation, and that means we cannot do it in fleshly terms and human strategies. It has to be done in the God-way. That implies for it to be built and enjoyed, prayer and fellowship with the Lord and each spouse are not an option.

What’s making you faint-hearted? Is it the iniquities of people? Then study and pray persistently with Romans 12:11 and Matthew 24:12 to make God help you to keep your spiritual fervour.

We’re called in Christ to walk in good works (Ephesians 2:10). Therefore, it’s not God’s will for any of us to use faintness as an excuse to walk in this reality. Watch your life closely. Expel the negative influence in your life by divine wisdom, and keep praying. God will empower you to continue doing good without fainting.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer

Father, in the name of Jesus, I thank you for providing prayer as the solution to faintness. Always remember me to pray when I feel like giving up on what you’ve called me to do so that I’ll receive fresh grace to keep pressing on. Amen!
