“And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off?” — Luke 18:7 NIV
A question I used to ask some of my mentors in Christ is, “If God hears our prayers, why do we need to pray persistently about one particular thing?”
Yes, God hears our prayers, even if we do it just once concerning an issue. But God also knows that we’re humans, and sometimes, we like placing demands when we want something very fast. That’s why He’s long-suffering.
Jesus says in Luke 18:7 that God won’t put off the people who pray persistently unto Him about one thing, especially if it’s about injustice. Instead, He’ll come to their aid.
Friend, God isn’t mad at you for a one long prayer request you make each day. Making persistent prayers doesn’t infuriate God. It activates the long-suffering characteristic of His love.
God is not an intentional delayer. He knows why He does all the things He does. Even if you don’t understand His ways, seek to know them, and put your trust in Him. Maybe, He wants you to change your mind before giving you what you asked for [just like what He did for Hannah. She wanted a baby, but that boy never came until she said in her prayer that she’d dedicate that child back to God (see 1 Samuel 1:11)].
Reorient your motives for praying. Get spiritual understanding from the Bible, and be inspired to pray as you receive from His Word.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, in the name of Jesus, I receive grace to reorient my mentality for my prayer requests. Help me make kingdom demands by inspiring me to pray persistently about my issues. Amen!
