[26] “The righteous choose their friends carefully, but the way of the wicked leads them astray.” – Proverbs 12:26 (NIV)
Friends play a crucial role in influencing lives. There is no friendship without influence. So, friendship has an impact on people, and if they are bad, they can corrupt the good manners you have been raised to uphold in your life (see 1 Corinthians 15:33).
Solomon, the wisest person on this Earth, didn’t get it wrong when he said in Proverbs 12:26 that the righteous choose their friends carefully. Let me ask you a question. Have you been conscious about choosing your friends? I am asking this question because many people aren’t intentional about who they mingle with. They allow life to make people who cross their paths become friends but hardly decide not to enable person A or person B to be part of the friends list.
Meaningful friends are scarce to find. Over time, life and circumstances have a way of seeding out light-hearted friends away from people’s lives, and when that happens to you, it is quite normal. However, for those who share your values and goals, make it a personal ambition to put in some effort to keep them. That is how you choose your friends. May the Lord help you in this area of life.
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for blessing me with some meaningful friends. Help me to keep them as You enable me. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
