Fight Against Little Acts of Compromise

“Catch us the foxes,
The little foxes that spoil the vines,
For our vines have tender grapes.” - Song of Songs 2:15 (NKJV)

Song of Songs is a very romantic book, and many people read it to find expressions of love, which is fine. However, there is one particular verse in the book that has varied areas of application in life. It’s Song of Songs 2:15. When you read the book with the subheadings inclusive, say in the New King James Version, you’ll realise that that is the only verse the Shulamite’s (bride’s) brothers spoke out. They said,

Catch us the foxes,
The little foxes that spoil the vines,
For our vines have tender grapes.”

You may ask, what does this mean? As I said earlier, it has varied areas of application. But the words are figurative. The word “foxes” in the verse refers to little acts of compromise. And “vines” refers to precious possessions, material or immaterial. Also, “tender grapes” refers to the core values that make up for the vitality of the precious possessions. Here’s my paraphrased version of the scripture.

“Notice the little acts of comprise. Those acts destroy precious possessions by attacking the core values that make them valuable.”

In marriage, it can be used to make a conscious effort to eliminate every minor offence and costly behavioural mistake that can ruin it. In business, it is about dealing with minute sinful acts, such as stealing office possessions or mismanaging money, that impede effective company growth. Whatever you have, look after it well. Fight against little acts of compromise, lest you destroy something precious in your life.

You are a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your blessings in my life. Give me the wisdom to deal with every little act of compromise in my life that will destroy what you have blessed me with. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
