[11] And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?” – Genesis 3:11 (NKJV)
God created a perfect Earth devoid of sin and evil. But He ordered man not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil because He wanted man to live forever. But man disobeyed Him and ate from that tree. From that time till date, things have not been okay.
God is omnipresent, so He knew what went on. But when He came to visit the couple, Adam and Eve in the cool of the day, they hid from His presence among the trees of the garden. So, God intentionally called Adam and asked for his whereabouts. Then Adam said,
“I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.”
Genesis 3:10 (NKJV)
I suppose God felt very disappointed when He heard the word “naked” in Adam’s speech. So, He replied to Adam, saying, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?”
Because God knew the consequences of barring them from eating from that forbidden tree, the follow-up question confirmed what Adam did. Sometimes, when God prevents you from doing certain things, it’s for your own protection, not limitation. Adam and Eve’s case wasn’t different. God wanted their minds to be filled with only what is good, not a mixture of good and evil. And let me tell you that that desire is still in God’s heart for every believer today.
God wants your mind to be totally transformed by His Word so that you’ll not think about anything evil but be wise enough to live carefully in this perverse generation, where evildoing is common. Stick to following God’s Word because it is for your own good.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, help me never to get near anything that You have flagged “red” in my life. May I live purely before You every day. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
