[1] “I will lift up my eyes to the hills—From whence comes my help? [2] My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth.” – Psalms 121:1-2 (NKJV)
In this life, many people struggle in this world. In fact, I’ve met several people on the streets begging for money, including mature people who are even working. Sometimes, I get shocked when I encounter such people, not because I’ve not gone through struggles before, but because many aren’t depending on God for supply. Too many people are bent on working for everything they get. So they get trapped in expending all their energies on the world and abandon their spiritual growth exercises like daily quiet time, consistent prayer and personal Bible study.
According to Luke 2:52 (NKJV), it’s written that,
[52] “And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.”
So because Jesus grew spiritually, divine favour from both the Father and men was His portion. That means that one of the benefits of spiritual growth is that it helps you to depend on God for help and nobody else.
Looking at today’s devotional anchor scripture more closely, David said he recognised that his help came from the Lord when he lifted up his eyes, not when he depended on his position as king or boasted about the loyal soldiers he had or even the gold he had access to in God’s temple. In the same way, you can boldly say the Lord is your helper only when you’ve learnt how to depend on Him to meet each of your needs.
Don’t let the pressure from the world deceive or trap you to think that you’ll only get that provision for whatever God has put in your heart to do by working for them. It’s a lie. Work alright, but don’t depend on your salary or people as your source; look to God for help. He will send the help you need in each stage of your life. Fret not, for He will never fail you.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, I look to You for all my needs. Give me adequate wisdom to direct every help You make available to me through people to fulfil the right assignment at each stage of my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
