So they were offended at Him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house.” - Matthew 13:57 NKJV
Honour is a recognition of importance or value. God values every person. Yet, He bestows His honour on only those who serve Jesus (see John 12:26). If even God honours His servants, all people must also learn the code of honour for labourers of God’s kingdom.
I’ve been to places where men of God were treated like paupers and beggars. I’ve seen people disregard the anointing on some genuine pastors. I’m not too old, but I’ve seen that for some of these people, it didn’t end well with them.
During Jesus’ time on earth, He went to several places to proclaim the gospel of the kingdom. He was received well by several people in many locations. But when He came to His hometown Nazareth, the Nazarenes dishonored Him. They mistakenly compared Him to His family background. Jesus was impacting too many people, but familiarity made these Nazarenes despise His ministry unto them.
To the servant of God, focus on fulfilling your divine calling in Christ without much expectation of honour from people. If God has chosen to honour you for serving Jesus, that should be enough for you. To the one who receives ministry from the called of the Lord, be careful about how you treat God’s servants, no matter how close or open they are to you. For the sake of good reception of ministry, humble yourself and listen to Truth from them.
You’re a blessing.
