Take up the Cause of the Fatherless

[17] “Learn to do right; seek justice.
Defend the oppressed.
Take up the cause of the fatherless;
plead the case of the widow.” – Isaiah 1:17 (NIV)

Fatherless people are some of the most needy people on the face of this Earth. I know families who have struggled to date because of the death or sickness of their dad. Why is that so? Because when something evil happens to the head, every part of the family suffers. So when the prophet Isaiah said, “Take up the cause of the fatherless,” he was defending one of the most impoverished in society.

However, as prophetic as the book of Isaiah is, I don’t believe this Word is just for those who are physically fatherless, but also for the spiritually fatherless generation. Anyone who is not born again doesn’t have God as his Father. As such, they are dead in trespasses and sins (see Ephesians 2:1). If a person is dead, he doesn’t have control over what the pathologist does to his body. Right? That is why the fatherless need help. And those who can speak up for them are those alive.

Today, when you see people wallowing in sin, don’t condemn them. Take up their cause and preach the Word of God to them. And as you do it in power to them as they reciprocally listen to you, watch how God will transform their lives.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, help me see people as You see them, not as condemning but as precious people who need salvation and discipleship to be all that God created them to be. That is my prayer today. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
