Sometimes, Withdraw and Think About Where Your Life is Going

[3] “A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself, But the simple pass on and are punished.” – Proverbs 22:3 (NKJV)

In primary school, I used to hear the idiom: “Had I known is the philosophy of a fool.” Today, as I write this devotional, that statement is resounding in my mind so strongly. Seriously, if people would sometimes take a break from whatever they were doing to reflect on what path they were taking in their lives, I say that many would have advised themselves to do better with their lives today.

Proverbs 22:3 tells us that one thing a prudent man does is to foresee evil and hide himself (or take refuge). That implies it takes wisdom to perceive what is coming ahead of you, even if it is far off. So, in many cases, people who land on unexpected, unfortunate problems usually lack the wisdom to perceive the outcome of certain things they are doing.

Let me take an example of what many people do daily. If you are addicted to scrolling on social media, so much so that it can take you hours before you realise that you’ve wasted so much time, can you think of how many hours you are wasting when calculating it for even a week? Apple’s screen time feature in the settings is a good tool for making these analytics. Don’t be caught in a web succumbing to unending addictions. Sometimes, withdraw and think about where your life is going with such addictions. If it is bad, get back on track with God, lest you jeopardise your future.

You are a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for blessing me with wisdom. Help me to use my life well in ways that will bring You glory. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
